Sometimes I don’t have much to go on when things arrive in my inbox. In fact I still have little to go in terms of the artists background, other than the release of this 4 track EP. However the beautiful thing about running Mr Teeth reviews, is you never know what you’re going to listen to next.
When it comes to Wildbeliever, I get the impression this has been produced largely at home in front of the PC. As such more of a bedroom demo, rather than a release with any full studio or label backing.
Opening track “I Yearn for you” features female vocals, a voice I can imagine suiting a decent enough covers band. It’s the 2nd track though in “Artificial Intelligence” that I personally find the EP’s stand out tune. There’s a definite Gary Numan influence, layered in dark new wave/synth-pop. The electro-goth breakdown before the track kicks back in, showing Wildbeliever enjoys noodling with technology.
The remaining numbers come in the form of “Blind” and “Under the Same Sky”. While the vocals don’t really do it for me, the instrumental “…sky” creates an ambience in keeping with “Artificial Intelligence”. Personally, I think this would be the right direction to head in, with the potential to bring back 80’s electronica into the year 2018.
