Here on the south coast of good ole Blighty in Pompey we began the year with Icebreaker Festival, we’ve since had other all day music events such as Dials, along with weekend festivities in the Portsmouth Summer Show and most recently the dance-orientated Mutiny Festival… and that’s before we’ve even reached the larger Victorious Festival in August.
BUT that’s not all folks as Southsea Fest returns for 2016 on the 1st October and with it’s first batch of announcements just released, you better take up your anchor and get ready to set sail… for it’s gonna be one hell of an adventure.
Starting from humble beginnings as a mere two venue event ten years ago the Southsea Fest shipmates took a well deserved breather last year but having had artists such as Drenge, Future of the Left, Ed Harcourt, Dinosaur Pile Up and Bo Ningen playing alongside a vast array of local and underground acts, 2016 has already got a lot to live up to.
So what do we have on offer this year, well it’s early days but for £20 you will gain access to over 20 venues (that’s a bargain and will ultimately work out at less than £1 per venue!) with over a 100 bands – although even your faithful writer will struggle to catch them all.
Artists to have been announced as of today include Mystery Jets, Lucy Rose, Little Comets, Black Honey, Eagulls and Tellison who join a number of Portsmouth based names such as Battery Hens, Sacha, the Boy I used to be, You’re Smiling Now But We’ll All Turn Into Demons and of course local hero’s Kassassin Street.
Further more there are some new (and old) venues getting involved: the Pyramid Centre may be a little walk away from the main strip but it’s a staple on the local circuit, there’s also the addition of Beats and Swing hosting at club EQ, Mariner Records at the Irish club and with Champagne Justice putting out at the Methodist Church everyone from heaven to hell are likely to have their ears ringing by the end of the day.
It may not be here until 1st October and more details will follow in due course, but for now check below and get involved people ’cause given how quickly the months sail past the Southsea Fest ship will soon be upon us:
