Having received great press from the likes of Metal Hammer the online following for London based Skreamer increased dramatically almost overnight, with 2012’s debut album “Blackened Earth” becoming the end result. Since then the band have relocated into their own studio within a small village in Wales to write and record their next release, which along with an upcoming headline performance at London’s Borderline later this year shows how far the band has come despite frontman Samuel Morter and bassist Serg Ronchetti losing members along the way.
So whilst new guitarist Steve Walker had already started to make himself known on the underground circuit with previous metal act Puresist and the female led Seventh Seeker, I personally have always maintained Mr Walker should return to his Steve Vai/Joe Satriani inspired roots and drawn out instruments reminiscent of his early demos, but alas defiant as always this isn’t what Skreamer are offering and although “Pigfeed” may well be missing those trademark solos it makes up for it with pure riffs and a tune you can definitely rock out to.
Vocally and lyrically this track is reminiscent of old school nu-metal and with “Pigfeed” being the radio and DJ friendly length of under 3 minutes it will be interesting to see how much well deserved air play the song receives, as I can imagine the chorus of “Choking, Choking, Choking…on Pig Feed“ being shouted out in alternative clubs up and down the country – so in the meantime raise your fists, pump the air and keep an ear open for the upcoming second album as I’ve a feeling it’s going to be worth the wait.
