Back in an era when MTV Europe was at the cutting edge of new music, rather than that of promoting reality TV stars, Marijne van der Vlugt rose to fame as a late-night presenter. While carrying out her VJ career, the Dutch singer was also well known for fronting the UK based rock group Salad.
Now some 20 years later and with her MTV days behind her, Marijne has since been re-united with ex-band mate and guitarist Paul Kennedy. The duo recently returned to the studio under the banner of Salad Undressed, recording the new track “Being Human”.
The reality here is anyone going to be interested other than those of us old enough to have lived through the height of the Britpop era? Well, the pair are currently on a revival tour with Sleeper, the Bluetones, Space, Dodgy and My Life Story. I don’t know about you, but that sounds a pretty good line-up to me.
While the pair are recording a full-length album, this particular single is already available as a free download through Pledge Music. Although written within a couple of hours of Kennedy waking up, “Being Human” still rings true of Salad’s indie hooks from yesteryear.
The full line-up of Salad has also reformed and are set to perform their first shows in 19 years at the below dates:
27th September 2017 – Lexington, London Islington – Warm up for Indie Daze
7th October 2017 – Indie Daze Festival at London Kentish Town’s O2 Forum
8th December 2017 – York Fibbers
