Foxer – “Slingshot”
Although a local band from my home city of Portsmouth, it’s been a few years since I’ve seen Foxer play live. What I do recall however, is that they provided some good old school hard rock. Nothing anymore fancy than that, but delivering it with just the right amount of power. With the release of “Slingshot” Foxer offer up a 3 track single, again keeping it nice and simple.
When the recordings arrived in my inbox, the review almost started to write itself. There’s the original version of the lead single, an exclusive b-side and then an acoustic version of “Slingshot”. This is very much in keeping with how singles used to be. At least back when I were a lad anyway.
As the opening riff to “Slingshot” kicked in, my memory served me right. Foxer just love playing classic sounding rock n roll. You can picture the low strung guitars, the stance in front of the mic and a bass player that may or may not be playing in fingerless gloves.
That’s just an image it conjures up in my mind. The point being, if you like classic rock music this is worthy of a listen.
Foxer – “Slingshot” the b-sides
Not a band for fancy song titles, the simple “Shrink” is another hard rock tune. It’s rawness is part of the attraction, although like many b-sides you may forget it exists, until you happen to find it again on your playlist.
Then there’s the acoustic recording of “Slingshot” by Foxer. In the olden days this could have taken the format of a demo version, but the production here sounds a lot more rounded. There’s a nice tone on the guitars, subtle harmonies on the vocals and a brief solo not as noticeable in the original.
So there we have it, a band that have made me nostalgic about yesteryear. In the next single, maybe Foxer will include a radio edit, an extended 12 inch mix or that hard to track down live version.
