Review: Stolen Lives “Luciferuv Efekt”
Stolen Lives from the Czech Republic have just released their new album “Luciferuv Efekt” and it’s pretty brutal thrash/hardcore. As far as I can work out, Stolen Lives have had a series of EP’s and then in 2015 a full-length release “Budoucnost Sviní” (albeit limited edition).
Although the band sing in their native tongue, the lyrics to “Luciferuv Efekt” are translated within the sleeve notes. However, when it comes to trying to discover anything else about Stolen Lives, even with the help of google translate, things prove difficult.
One thing’s for certain though and that’s quite simply put on the bands Facebook page: “Play fast, or don’t”. It’s a fairly straightforward choice, so if you like fast 2-minute songs then “Luciferuv Efekt” is worth checking out.
As far as reaching the UK market, it doesn’t make any difference that the lyrics won’t necessarily be easy to follow. After all, the band play everything at such ferocity that trying to keep up would be somewhat of a challenge.
The first number in “Hacek” is a full-on hectic 2.5-minute piece of hardcore, while “Nevyhnutelně” is but just 1.15 minutes in length. Both of which give you an idea of what’s to follow. Elsewhere “V Zapomnění” has some impressive drum fills, but then you almost think with “Luciferuv Efekt” Stolen Lives won’t be able to get any heavier.
However, the album lasts only half an hour and so there’s no time to slow things down. If anything, when it comes to “Čára bídy” and “Vztek“ Stolen Lives somehow step it up a notch and become even more intense.
The penultimate track “Stopaři” may have a brief breakdown and the instrumental outro is sluggish by comparison, but ultimately Stolen Lives are pretty full on. As for their target audience, providing you’re already into the scene, then there isn’t much not to like.
Plus being a relatively short album, with “Luciferuv Efekt”, Stolen Lives certainly don’t lose any of its initial impact.
