Remembering Kurt Cobain (RIP) – 24 Years Later…

Remembering Kurt Cobain

Remembering Kurt Cobain

Today marks the 24th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. I still remember it clearly. I was at home and heard the announcement on MTV News (back when the “M” actually meant Music). I must admit at the time, although I enjoyed listening to them, I wasn’t necessarily a huge Nirvana fan.

However Kurt was considered the voice of a generation. For the “alternative scene” he seemed like one of us, and for many, someone we could relate to. This became even clearer to me that very afternoon when I returned to college to it being all anyone was talking about.

I’ve gone on to appreciate Nirvana much more since then, I love their music and MTV unplugged is one of those historic broadcasts. Nirvana weren’t necessarily the instigators of the grunge scene, but they certainly played an important part. Especially in bringing grunge to the masses. It was this success which ultimately, may have contributed to the loss of a young life.

It’s hard to believe Cobain didn’t even make it to his 30th birthday, but instead became another member of the infamous 27 club.

As we all know, on the 5th April 1994, Kurt Cobain committed suicide. For the purpose of this article, the why’s, wherefores and conspiracy theories aren’t important. What is and always will be, is the loss of a great musician, songwriter and individual.

On a recent more personal note, this serves as a constant reminder to look out for one another.

Music brings us together, but it’s our actions that make that bond stronger.

Peace and love.
