Sleep Centre
Doors opening late may have resulted in us getting wet, but openers Sleep Centre made the wait worthwhile – armed just with guitars, pedals and violin bows this minimal two piece create several ambient instrumentals which was a great start to the evening.
Waking Charred
Lead by frantic bass playing Waking Charred played a set filled with a well balanced and varied array of instrumentals, from the minimal beginner through more quite/loud tracks and a self styled dance number created a gripping and powerful set. Feeding off well selected samples and an array of pedals for the effects this was post-rock at its best.
Hall of Mirrors
The last time I saw Hall of Mirrors was at the fantastic setting of the Kings Theatre, however performing tonight as a more stripped down version of the band, Jessica Spencer’s vocals were just as beautiful in the intimate surrounding proving the versatility of her music and those who saw the full band perform at London’s O2 a couple of days later would have been in for a real treat.
Reigns
Hailing from Brighton, Reigns played a dark and haunting set, with bleak silent movie style projections and songs to match. Sometimes instrumental and sometimes with subtle vocals low down in the mix, duel keyboards and dark beats Reigns provided the perfect soundtrack to the horrendous weather in the outside world.
