Brutally heavy death and black thrash metal from Turkey, Persecutory have just released “Towards the Ultimate Extinction “ via Godz Ov War Productions.
The band originated out of Istanbul as a 3 piece with the sole purpose of inflicting “morbid and malignant black thrash metal” across the city. They released their debut EP in 2015, before heading back into the studio the following year for their full-length release.
With songs credited to their pseudonyms, including the addition of 2nd guitarist Vulgargoat there’s the usual black metal silliness. The bands logo is suitably over the top too, featuring dragons, pentagrams and bullet belts.
As for the music, from the opening scream on “Pillars of Dismay“ to the endless sound of a walrus being tortured on “Maelstroms Of Antireligious Chaos“ it’s pretty much as you’d expect. Disclaimer: I’m assuming no walruses were harmed during the making of this record.
Vocally I can only describe frontman Tyrannic Profanator as delivering the lyrics with the sound of him throwing up. For example “Till Relentless Salvation Comes“ sounds as though he’s vomiting over the mic, which I must admit even for me becomes a bit too much at times.
Musically however it’s the sheer aggression that will appear to fans of the dark side. While the majority of tracks are just a constant double bass assault, on “Hegemony Of The Ruinous Impurity“ the hard hitting A.D.B manages to introduce a sort of military band drum roll.
The production throughout “Towards the Ultimate Extinction” isn’t exactly highly polished, but this adds to the authenticity of the albums black and death metal influences. If you listen back to early Mayhem, Darkthrone and Venom records, they too have that lo-fi demo quality, making Persecutory a valid addition.
