PANDEMIC – “DEAF NITE EP”
Given recent global events, now seems a good time as any to revisit a CD Mr Teeth was supposed to have reviewed last year. Pandemic are a thrash metal band from Poland, with the “Deaf Nite” EP having been their debut release.
It has been widely publicised within the last week the affect the Coronavirus is having on the music industry. With a number of bands being forced to abandon tours and the summer festival season already taking a hit.
With a death toll already passing a worrying 4.5k worldwide it is, of course, a serious matter. One in which the use of the term pandemic shouldn’t be taken lightly. Nor should the group of the same name, although as an underground Polish band, there’s (hopefully) no fear of them spreading the deadly virus themselves.
As with many Eastern European rock bands, Pandemic have clearly been influenced by the late 80’s American thrash metal scene. Lazy references to early Metallica and Megadeth are there to be made, especially while listening to both the self-titled track and the EP’s lead tune. Albeit said with the utmost respect, as “Pandemic” and “Deaf Nite” are great tunes, made with killer riffs.
Meanwhile, the latter two tracks may well carry on in the same vein, but have a more British feel to them. In particular the longer song of “Warpath” being something of an epic number. One that dips into the New Wave of British Metal book of Iron Maiden style construction with Diamond Head brutality.
While Mr Teeth Reviews continues to send his thoughts to those affected by the Coronavirus, at least we can still listen to great music. If anything, rather than follow the mass-hysteria created by the British press and panic buying toilet roll, maybe self-isolate and listen to Pandemic instead.
