Slade fans: Dave Hill’s Slade vs Don Powell’s Slade
As of this week, Don Powell has left “Dave Hill’s Slade” and formed “Don Powell’s Slade” with Craig Fenney (formerly of “Slade II”).
Given Slade’s original frontman Noddy Holder once turned down auditioning for AC/DC, I feel it’s only fair that Noddy and Chris Slade (from AC/DC) also form a Slade tribute band…
Thus hoping the original “Slade” will eventually reform and I can go see them. Basically, I love Slade.
They’ve always remained one of my favourite ever bands. Although I’ve never seen them live, as feel the Hill/Powell incarnations are only ever going to be a tribute to the real thing.
Noddy Holder and Slade
As for the original line-up, Slade managed 21 top 20 hits in the UK alone (including 6 number ones) back at a time when singles still meant something.
Incidentally, the Ambrose Slade album is great too, showcasing their pre-Glam rock era.
Plus Noddy Holder always seems like a lovely bloke, even if he is only dragged out at Xmas, but what an incredible voice that man had.
Strip away the mirrored top hats, platform shoes, funny shaped guitars and monster truck glue and you’re left with a damn fine rock n roll band. There was always a reason for my sideburns when I was younger…
In other Slade news, Sladey are playing at the Wedgewood Rooms in June, presumably without any lawyers involved. Rather than waiting for whichever of Dave Hill’s Slade comes around next, I may well just go to the Sladey gig instead.
