Long Distance Celebration – Out Now

I FEEL FINE – “LONG DISTANCE CELEBRATION”

Much like my beloved Portsmouth, along the coast in sunny Brighton, there are an array of alternative underground bands. I Feel Fine being just one of them, only these guys (to the best of my knowledge) haven’t yet made it to the shores of Southsea.

They would, however, most definitely have fitted in a few years back, especially with tracks showcased on their post-hardcore EP “Long Distance Celebration”. Whether or not I Feel Fine have played my home city is in fact neither here nor there. Although they have just finished a handful of dates that included a trip over to France and Germany.

I guess the thing is with “Long Distance CelebrationI Feel Fine sound like a number of local bands from recent times. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, just there’s an element of familiarity without actually having heard the EP before.

If we forget about the instrumental intro track, the EP’s middle 3 numbers are all of the aforementioned post-hardcore ilk. “Beached Community” and “Everyday Safari” in particular, with the atmospheric guitars and all too slightly emo vocals. Although, while I take away personal tastes this is a band that can clearly latch onto an otherwise winning formula.

Then the EP closes with the more sedate “Pan For Gold”. It’s a longer track from I Feel Fine and one which I rather like. Beauty can often be simplistic and there’s nothing over complicated here either. This particular tune just has a nice mellow guitar piece, which is then complemented by the vocals. “Long Distance Celebration” is available from the groups bandcamp page here.
