Often when the music press refer to a hotly anticipated release it’s in response to an upcoming album by a multi-album selling artist, or the comeback of those that were once popular and have since disappeared and reformed, but the fact unsigned metallers Hummune are about to put out the follow up to their 2012 “Crafted in Darkness” debut is getting Mr Teeth most excited.
Recorded locally by Lewis Johns (having previously worked with bigger acts such as Funeral for a Friend) the Southampton three piece then involved Brad Boatright to master the forthcoming album from overseas – a man who’s credentials also include OFF!, High on Fire, Sunn o)) and the old school death metal of Obituary.
Whilst “Face the Fall” is likely to continue in the same vein as its’ predecessor with the credentials of those behind the mixing desk there’s bound to be something special about the album, so in regards to the early release of the track “Deity” what do we have on offer?
Well, it’s still Hummune playing their heavy Prong/Godflesh metal of an industrial level but without the need of mechanical keyboards or samples, for Hummune create their machine with the basic set up of guitar/bass/drums and maybe the odd effects pedal thrown in for good measure.
There’s also a slight Pantera riff on the single “Deity” with a guitar part mid-way that has that classic “Walk” style stomp, whilst in contrast to the honest early 90’s rawness there’s been careful consideration to the modern production making “Face the Fall” an album I’m pretty sure is going to live up to my expectations, coming from a band I hope to see live again at some point too.
