There’s something special about Brighton with plenty of creativity flourishing within its artistic roots, as is the case with the latest release from Devil in Detail – a band who follow up their 2012 self-titled EP with a second three track affair in “Goodbye, Red Admiral”.
Having originally been recorded last July the opening song “Idle Hands” sees the duel guitars create a riff that makes you think something heavier is coming, but ultimately Devil in Detail focus on their melodies and clean cut sound in what could be considered the accessible side of the alternative rock spectrum.
Second track of the EP “Monster” is delivered with more conviction whereby Devil In Detail come across as Brighton’s answer to Skunk Anansie (who came into prominence with their 1995 debut “Paranoid & Sunburnt”) as the vocals of Candice Underwood become the main focal point, much in the same way as the unique voice of Skunk Anansie’s Skin on their hit single “Weak” – albeit with a little less anger.
This release is however only the three songs and as such final tune “Giants” can’t go without a mention, again having that mid-nighties feel but with a soulful characteristic meaning Devil in Detail are coming straight from the heart resulting in the right balance of genuine musicianship alongside slightly more radio friendly tendencies.
