SINGER BRIAN JOHNSON ADVISED BY DOCTORS TO DISCONTINUE TOURING!
Official press statement here: www.acdc.com/news?n_id=274
This is indeed another sad day for AC/DC in what’s been a troublesome few years and whilst Brian Johnson’s personal well-being is of course far more important, I hope the news doesn’t extend to future dates (from a purely selfish view point, I already have my London ticket) but as for the possibility of re-arranging later in the year “likely with a guest singer” they’re too far through their career for that option surely?
I mean, I can’t see them getting in touch with original front-man Dave Evans and when Bon Scott passed away Noddy Holder turned down AC/DC to focus on his loyalty to Slade, so the chances of coming out of retirement for a stadium tour with DC ain’t ever going to happen.
Then there’s the more realistic rumor of bringing in Steven Tyler from Aerosmith as a temporary replacement, who to be fair I reckon could do a great job, but leaving Angus Young as the only original member of a band celebrating over 40 years in the industry would soon be in danger of becoming a glorified tribute band.
Although from a business perspective there’s the slight issue that cancelling a tour of this magnitude altogether would no doubt bring with it a financial, contractual and legal minefield – so whatever happens next who knows, for now we can just wish Brian Johnson all the best and remember kids, earplugs were invented for a reason.
