RASH DECISION – “SEASIDE RESORT TO VIOLENCE / HEADSTRUNG“

Their music may be short and to the point but hardcore bands are often pushing themselves to their limits and Cornwall’s Rash Decision are no different, having toured around the UK and numerous trips to Europe with various other underground acts, they’ve also stopped off at one or two festivals along the way to inflict their aggression upon the masses.

It’s no wonder then that Rash Decision have gained the interest of a number of record labels with no fewer than 12 independents helping to put out their upcoming vinyl, a coming together of two previous albums in “Seaside Resort to Violence” and “Headstrung” being re-released in their entirety as one single compilation.

The first side of the record features “Seaside Resort to Violence” which in itself is a title to be proud of, it is by no means an album that’s likely to bring back the happiest of memories from seaside holidays but more likely those involving reluctantly being dragged out into the grey and storm ridden abyss.

Opening track “MRCC” is you’re standard hardcore tune with screeching feedback and straight into some well-executed use of the rough/clean vocals, but it’s the likes of “The Cost of my Pride” and “Dislocate” that make Rash Decision stand out for they too may well be short blasts of energy but also contain some heavy metal riffs, whilst “Bottom Feeder” captures that moment where a guest vocalists briefly takes over the mic for the full on hardcore live experience.

Spin the record over and side two continues down the more metal route, the opening track for the “Headstrung” album is the longest on the double release but still barely reaches the two and half minute mark before it’s back to those that are only a matter of seconds – “Empty the Pits” is then somewhere in-between and will of course do the opposite to the title insinuates, for I’m sure Rash Decision will encourage chaos on the floor when they take to the stage.

It’s not just the above track though, for “Headstrung” may pause briefly to have a couple of spoken word samples but it also has many moments for the crowd to get worked into a frenzy, “Lago’s Labours” and “C*nt” have the angry shout-a-longs whilst Rash Decision throw everything at “Sunburn” – there’s a bass intro, brief guitar solo and the opportunity for a fist punching chant, which sums up this two part release perfectly.
