HORSEFLIES – “THESE HALLS ARE HAUNTED NOW”

HORSEFLIES – THESE HALLS ARE HAUNTED NOW

As a live act, Horseflies immediately grab your attention. They’re loud and scream a lot but are humble in their delivery, genuinely appreciative of their following. It’s a trait that continues from several years on the local music scene, having featured in bands such as Attack! Vipers! and Deluxe Flamingos.

While the latter sound far removed from this project (having been filled with electronic dance beats), fans of Attack! Vipers! will be more in keeping with what to expect from Horseflies. They’re post-hardcore, mixing the likes of Fugazi and Future of the Left, with the cleaner edge of bands such as At the Drive in.

Horseflies: “These Halls Are Haunted Now”

The production of “These Halls are Haunted Now” captures the band in their element, the songs are short in structure, but somehow the album feels longer than it actually is.

False Roses in Bloom” shows the angry side of the group, while “Cake Delivery” has swirling guitars and uplifting undertones. The bass and drums from “Fake Moon” keep things rolling along nicely, while “Past Me Present You” includes some catchy hooks and well delivered vocals.

This a great little debut and with the guys working hard on the local scene, keep an eye out for them hitting a sweaty little venue near you soon.
