Having once been widely regarded as the next Portsmouth band to “finally make-it” within the wider music industry, things have gone quiet for Kassassin Street of late. Although that’s not to say it’s necessarily the end, it just means the individual members can venture off on their own for a bit.
That’ s exactly what bassist Tom Wells has been doing with his new project Fast Trains. Releasing the first track “Measure by Measure” as of today, 30th January 2019. So what does the bassist have in store for us with this little beauty?
Well, there are still elements of his old bandmates within “Measure by Measure”. Largely on the guitars, this time provided by Michael Koullas and Tom himself. The chorus is full of that familiar jangly 60’s summer vibe, much like his main band. Then there are the subtle beats. While Tom Wells has become a master of all trades including sitting behind the drum kit, Kassassin Street’s own Nathan Hill helps provide Fast Trains with some extra percussion.
So while there may be a strong link to Portsmouth’s finest, this is still very much Tom’s own work and one that finds him in a mellow mood. Written and produced at home, along with additional vocal engineering from the talented Gregg Powell, thanks to Mayfield Studio.
You can give “Measure by Measure” by Fast Trains a listen below, the video comes with some rather nice animation too. Mr Teeth Reviews is certainly looking forward to hearing what’s next for the new outfit, as well as keeping an eye out to see if it’s ever performed live.
