Burnt to disc following last year’s support slot for original punk rockers the Vibrators, “Live at the Rifle Club” captures 5 Go Mad in all their glory.
This is very much a warts n all recording of the show… or if 5 Go Mad had their way, a warts, genitalia, bums and all recording.
Highlights include UK Subs influenced “Punk Police”, “She’s Not Quite Right” and songs about old band-mates in “Crashed Course”. These 3 in particular being taken from the album “Lashings and Lashings of Five Go Mad” (reviewed here).
The endless schoolboy humour may get a bit much at times, but with new songs including the likes of “Andy’s Bladder” you can’t help but raise a smile. Another newbie in “PMQ’s” reminds us why punk rock is still relevant, while elsewhere 5 Go Mad are having fun with the catchy “Syd Mankini”.
Although musically this is classic 3 chord punk rock, the reality is on record there’s only so far you can take some of the childish lyrics. “Live at the Rifle Club” however is ultimately about representing the band on stage, following what had been a great night.
With that in mind, take a look at the long list of tour dates and you will see how hard these guys are working. So next time you get to see 5 Go Mad, find the merchandise stand afterwards and pick up a copy… but be warned, there aren’t any refunds.
